The GR-2 is a precision time code generator/reader designed for production sound recording. Low power consumption with back lighting assures users of long battery life in a small reliable package.

The GR-2 reads, generates and jams to all the standard frame rates including 23.976 for High Definition Video. The Timecode I/O is on a 5 pin Lemo connector. An additional Timecode output is provided via a BNC connector. The temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) ensures low drift.

PSC RF Multi SMA ( HOT product!!!)

contains two, separate, active 1 x 8 RF splitters for use with up to eight diversity receivers. This compact, rugged device was designed using the latest super low noise amplifiers and will operate over an extended frequency range of 470 to 870 Mhz. Its two inputs are traditional BNC connectors for ease of use in interfacing with your external antennas. Each of the outputs offers a typical isolation factor of 24 to 28dB between radio receivers. The PSC RF MULTI SMA also has the ability to power external powered antennas or remote line amplifiers. There are two top panel mounted switches. One controls overall power and the second switch provides remote antenna power when needed. Both switches light up when in use. This unit is powered from any external DC source of 10 to 15Vdc via the bottom panel mounted 4 pin Hirose connector. A sturdy belt clip is included for ENG bag use.

- Not only due to its superb noise level attenuation, it is also comfortable to wear due to its lightweight design, gives a smooth and flat overall reproduction.

Unlike most isolation headphones designed to use at similar environment, the EX-29 plastic headband does not press on your head as much like some other headphones. It fits snugly but not pressing!

On top of these, one of the common complain from users about monitiring cans, is that some ear pads material used on headphones starts to " peel " after using for a period of time.

Some earpads using cloth/ velvet material turns brown and starts to "smell " bad. Yucks!!

The Centaurus™ is a full sized 24” x 48” corner bass trap that effectively

absorbs sound energy from 75Hz and up. Designed to be corner mounted
at ear-height, or stacked fl oor to ceiling, the Centaurus provides substantial
surface area for broadband absorption of all frequencies, while the corner
airspace created extends its effective coverage down into the low bass
region.

The Centaurus is constructed from a fabric wrapped, high-density glass
wool Broadway panel. When installed in the room corner with the included
hardware, the Centaurus creates a 17” deep cavity behind the panel. This
air space provides signifi cant absorption in the problematic low-mid (100Hz
– 200Hz) region while seamlessly integrating with other Broadway panel
installations. Mounting is achieved using the included Primacoustic Corner

Rolls RM83T Transbalanced Mic Mixer

The RM83t is an eight channel mixer in a single rack space intended for a variety of sound reinforcement applications including board rooms, churches, mixing console expansion etc. Virtually any application where up to eight microphones need to be mixed together, and space is limited, is met by the RM83t. Each of the eight channels has a transformer balanced XLR microphone input, as well as a 1/4" unbalanced input. The 1/4" jacks may be internally reconfigured to become channel Inserts or Direct Outputs. Inserts provide a way to get each individual channel signal in and out of the RM83t mainly for processing purposes. A Direct Output is simply taking the signal from the channel only. Each channel has individually switchable +48 VDC phantom power. The RCA Prefade (pre Master Level) Output may be connected to the RCA Aux Buss Input for cascading two RM83t units together. This Output may also be used for recording purposes, and the Aux Buss Input. The Main output for the RM83t is a balanced male XLR jack. This output has a switch for Line or Mic level output.

Chameleon Labs 7802 Stereo Opto Tube Compressor

The 7802 Stereo Opto-Tube Compressor started with a sonic target of the classic optical limiter that's a bit dark and very well known from the mid to late 60s. Is it a copy or replicate? No! What CL ended up with in the 7802 was their own take on the classic, very much in the sonic family but with circuitry that's a bit more modern. One key difference between this and the classic is the way they handle the optical circuit: they use LED's as emitters instead of the filament (light bulb). They see some high end manufacturers pitching this LED emitter in an optical limiter as their key innovation! & CL offers it for under US$1,000!

The 7802 makes use of several unique US parts that they buy and ship to the factory. CL starts with the Perkin Elmer Vactrol Optoisolator from Massachusetts, employ selected, more expensive, but better sounding National Semiconductor high slew rate Op Amps from California and follow that with a special "Burr Brown" Texas Instruments Op Amp. Again, CL uses their outboard power supply for the lowest possible noise. The 7802 uses high end parts throughout to make this is a wonderful bargain for that person seeking high end quality with the sound of an old school compressor.

Chameleon Labs 7602 MKII Microphone Preamplifier & Equalizer

The 7602 Mic Pre & EQ input channel was CL first product in 2005 that started it all. The 7602 MKII is designed to deliver the "desert island preamp" sound you expect from English console inputs of the 70's along with 3 band EQ. CL incorporated a few, important functions like switchable input impedance to optimize the unit for ribbons/dynamics vs. condensers, a 4 LED input meter, a nice 4 frequency HP filter at 50, 80, 160 and 300 Hz to get rid of the low end junk clogging up your digital recordings and an adjustable high frequency section.

The 7602 MKII makes use of a high end 20 position solid gold gain switch manufactured and imported from Switzerland. This switch is designed for long term use and is typically found in very high end US or Euro units costing a lot more. For the DI input, where there is a lot of rough plugging and unplugging of a ¼ inch jack, we chose a US made Switchcraft DI input jack to greatly improve reliability over jacks that look the same but don't last. Expensive old school US made tantalum capacitors are now incorporated on the main output board because they sound significantly better in this design than our previously used electrolytic capacitors. That's how the original console input was made and we can hear why! CL uses only outboard power supplies for lowest noise.

"X-MOD" option offers British input and output transformers from Carnhill/Saint Ives Company, the source of vintage transformers used in the original console. In their view, the "X-MOD" is the only way to go but even without them the 7602 MKII is a remarkable bargain. The 7602 MKII full and warm bottom end and smooth, gentle top is perfect for tracking and a pair are ideal for mixing.

Chameleon Labs 7720 Stereo Bus Compressor

The 7720 Stereo Bus Compressor is perhaps CL's best achievement. High quality bus compression is a huge issue for mixers everywhere and the previous solutions were expensive. They started with a sonic target everyone is familiar with; the English console VCA compression system developed in the 80s. The heart of this console compression system was the dbx® VCA , designed by Les Tyler and now built by Les's company, THAT® Corporation.

The 7720's controls are set up as stereo device so that each control adjusts both channels. They included newer features, such as 5 switchable filters in the detector side chain: 60, 90, 130, 200 and 440Hz. This enables the user to custom tune the compressor behavior to prevent bass frequencies from triggering the compressor. In practice, this prevents the low end from dominating compressor activity. It makes a tremendous difference in the results! They also added a side chain input so that any input source can be the trigger for the compressor instead of the audio on the inputs of the unit. Metering of both input and output levels, on a VU meter, allows a fast and easy way to match the processed output gain of the unit compared to the input levels. From compression ratios as gentle as 1.5:1, to a more intense 10:1, the 7720 deserves to be across your final stereo bus.

The new PSC Power Star Mini power distribution system provides a convenient way of distributing clean, quiet, reliable 12Vdc to all of your ENG audio equipment from a single rechargeable battery. The PSC Power Star Mini features six outputs. Each of these outputs is designed to deliver up to 3 amps of continuous current. The Power Star Mini has a global (total) current limit of 5 amps. Quadpack - Designed for portable field production, the Quadpack simplifies the mounting and interconnection of two SRa Series compact receivers. Lightweight and rugged, it is perfectly at home in bag systems containing mixer, recorder and wireless transmitters used for audio feed to cameras. One set of audio outputs is used to feed the recorder and the other set to feed wireless transmitters.

Power is taken from an external DC source via one or both connectors. Circuitry is employed between the two jacks that takes power from the source with the higher voltage. This can be used to provide a backup power supply where the DC is automatically taken from the opposite jack if power is interrupted at one of them.

The second mic in the Oktava “100 Series” was introduced in 2005. The MK-102 features a small physical profile and flat, extended frequency response – qualities not typically found together in large diaphragm mics.

The Capsule
The MK-102 features a large 27.5 mm condenser capsule using all-brass backplate construction, precision-drilled pattern control holes and optimal 5 micron diaphragm for classic LDC microphone presence on vocals or instruments.

Capsule Housing & Body
A close-fitting housing surrounds the capsule and allows the front diaphragm to function in free-air without internal headbasket reflections. In addition, the MK-102’s unique capsule and body orientation reduces reflections between the microphone and the sound source. The MK-102 body disappears completely behind the capsule head when the mic is aimed at the sound source. This leaves only the capsule diaphragm exposed to the sound source for minimal reflections and clear-sounding recordings.

The MK-102 uses the same transformerless circuit found in the renowned MK-012 (over 90,000 in use worldwide) to deliver the alluring sound of direct phantom power applied to a large diaphragm capsule.

The Sound

On-axis - The MK-102 offers a smooth and extended frequency response with clean and accurate top end free from the harsh, excessively bright sound found in many modern microphones. Off-axis - Frequency response from 90 through 180 degrees closely resembles the on-axis sound and the attenuation of sound over this angular range is exceptionally smooth.

The MK-102 excels where the recordist desires a large diaphragm cardioid condenser mic with a flat frequency response that is maintained from 0 to 180 degrees to achieve a natural room sound spectral balance.

The ML-52-01 is a brand new improved version of Oktava’s famous ML-52 with a greatly improved windscreen, which protect a very sensitive filament from blast and moisture much better. Moreover it has an additional roll-of in low frequencies which compensates for the unavoidable bass boost that occurs with all pressure gradient transducers when they are used at close distance (proximity effect).

The stunning looks of this microphone combined with the classic sound of the double ribbon filament and the reliability expected of today's modern equipment make this a very desirable microphone.

The Oktava ML52 is suitable for use in any situation where a warm and rounded sound is required, The ribbon sound lending it an air of nostalgia whilst competing with modern condenser designs in terms of frequency response. The virtually non existent noise floor means that, used in conjunction with a good pre-amp. it is an ideal mic for digital recording.

As a true cosine or figure of eight microphone the ML52 has many advantages and uses in broadcast and installation due to the negligible sound it picks up from the sides, as well as 90 degree stereo recording. The figure of eight pattern is almost completely uniform at all frequencies.

The ML52 is eminently suited to string and brass instruments giving a sparkling but never harsh overall sound and also gives a particularly pleasing smooth sound to vocals.

Which model to choose?

After extensive listening tests, we have found that a 4:1 ratio is the minimum mass required to properly stabilize a monitor. So if you have a nearfield monitor that weighs 20lbs (8kg), you would select a Recoil that has a mass that is no less than ¼ the weight or 5lbs (2kg). To make selection as easy as possible, we have also provided a cross reference that is sorted by manufacturer and model.

Primafoam panels are a range of traditional high-density foam panels designed with the budget-conscious home studio and practice space in mind.

W- Foam Panels (Thickness: 2" (5.1cm))

Made from 1.8lb per cubic foot high-density polyurethane foam, Primafoam panels provide excellent mid and high frequency absorption. When combined with the Australis bass traps, it is possible for any room to be neutral and balanced throughout the audio listening range. Primafoam panels are finished in a UV resistant dark charcoal that helps to reduce fading over time, and are available in a variety of shapes and finishes to suit any design.

Installation is quick and simple using the included adhesive to mount the panels directly on the wall surface. If a temporary installation is favored, or if you don’t wish to mar your wall surfaces, simply adhere the panels to corrugated plastic or cardboard and tack to the wall using finishing nails. Primafoam panels are available as small Scandia™ Scatter Block wedges, 2” thick convoluted W-Foam™ sheets, and 3” thick Z-Foam™ Columns with a unique anechoic wedge styled pattern.

The Science

An open microphone picks up a mix of direct sound (blue arrows) and reflected sound (red arrows).

The VoxGuard baffel blocks reflected sound from entering the mic and the absorber layer minimizes reflections within the baffel allowing the dry vocal to be recorded.

Where can you use VoxGuard?
